One thing in common between three stories “The Pebbles” (which means Kankar in Gujrati and Hindi)

  • Once the Sultan Qutb-Uddin Ahmed Shah || asked his saint Shah Alam the site of Garden and Lake for Water Storage. The saint scattered some Pebbles at this site which is presently known as Kankaria Lake.
  • Saint Shah Alam was wandering in Ahmedabad and he got a cut in his foot by a pebble as that area was full of pebbles people locally named it Kankaria.
  • When this huge lake was under excavation a lot of Limestone Pebbles (kankar) dugout. So since then, it was named like this

However, there is an Inscription at Kankaria which mention Kankaria Lake as “Hauj-e-Qutub” after the name of Sultan Qutb-Uddin Ahmed Shah ||
